A documentary series about the iconic athlete, and convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius.
PISTORIUS is a feature documentary about the South African Paralympic and Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius, who shot and killed his girlfriend in the early hours of Valentine’s Day 2013 in circumstances that became debated in every newsroom, chatroom and living room across the globe.
Made over three years with exclusive access to key players in a live trial, the film explores the tragedy of Reeva Steenkamp’s death alongside, and in the context of, South Africa’s turbulent society.
Twenty years after Nelson’s Mandela’s seeming triumph over adversity, we discover the country, born out of apartheid, unable to overcome the profound damage inflicted upon it. Mired in racial tensions, a culture of gun crime, corruption, violence and failing institutions, Pistorius became symbolic of the shattered dreams of a nation.
Interviewees include; Amiee, Pistorius’ sister, Carl Pistorius’ brother, his Uncle Arnold Pistorius and the Binge Family, Pistorius’ closest relatives on his late mother’s side. Leading journalists Gareth A. Davies, Karyn Maughan and John Carlin. David Klatzow, Forensic Investigator, Gerrie Nel, Prosecution lawyer, Kelly Phelps, Defence Lawyer and with numerous Firearms and Forensic experts involved in the case. Pistorius’ Prosthesist, Former Headmaster, Paralympian team mates and many leading South African Journalists, Politicians, Police Chiefs, the leader of The ANC Women’s League.
