Third Star was the first film we made at WEP. For that reason it was always going to be special. It proved to be in so many ways that we could never have imagined.
After premiering as the closing Night Gala film of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in the summer of 2010, we released theatrically in the UK in 2011. From that moment the strength of the passionate support that existed from the fans of the film seemed to take over. And we were astounded.
Due to fan demand it was held over at the Empire Leicester Square, then rolled out regionally in the UK and also played at over 40 screens – from NYC to New Orleans – in the USA as part of the “From Britain with Love” program. In many cases it was booked thanks to fans who lobbied their local cinemas to show the film.
Since then the film has been released in Japan, Germany, France, Taiwan and South Korea.
The film has inspired a Japanese novel, iPhone covers, cupcakes, fan art, fan fiction and its own blend of tea, not to mention an incredible collection of tattoos! It’s been quite a journey and we’re STILL excited to discover what’s next for our first WEP Production.
